Currently consists of two partners, Franziska Wagner and Swen Geiss, working along the northern latitude 51.5°. Established in the year 2001, we are bringing together our experiences, gained in different countries, large and small offices as well as teaching in several universities in Aachen, Wuppertal. Our aim is to combine architectural, landscape and urban design projects with research and teaching. A holistic approach is important in our work. We consider every project in its specific social, ecological, and urban context.
Services
The name of the practice forms its programme and is its speciality - working in London and in Wuppertal. We started working together whilst still studying and we kept doing so even given the physical distance of being in two countries. With a practice in two locations we consciously seek the stimulation and exchange of these two different European cultures.
Wooden classroom I
Report
The School in Putney was built by Erno Goldfinger in 1952 and is grade 2 listed. Our brief was to add one classroom next to Goldfingers 1960's extension. A wooden building is linked via a glazed corridor with the existing building, constructed of solid timber walls which are highly insulated and clad with hardwood boarding.
This is a Secondary Special School catering for students with learning, language and communication difficulties. A new unit for students with an 'Autistic Spectrum Disorder' (ADS) was added to the school's structure, making it necessary to rethink the accommodation. Our brief was for the new unit, to consist of standard-sized and specialist classrooms together with therapy rooms. The location for the new two-storey building was determined by the wish to have clear open spaces, which can be easily supervised.
Play house
Report
The playhouse at the edge of King Georges Park is a non-climbable compact 'cube' with a central play space forming the heart of the building. It is orientated towards the main playground and creates a sheltered, flexible and contemporary space with a kitchen, I.T. equipment and toilet facilities. Warm water and heating is provided by solar collectors and a timber pellet heating.
