VOID:projects is based in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. We have recently completed a substantial and prestigious project for Spirax Sarco, a leading local manufacturer. Our architectural work has a strong focus on sustainable design, and benefits from links with Gillard Associates in Cardiff and Birmingham City University. The size of projects we undertake ranges from small house extensions to larger commercial and housing projects; all projects, whatever size, receive the same imagination, enthusiasm and dedication. Recent competition successes and commercial developments have shown our talent to create award winning contemporary architecture for a broad range of building types.
Our intention is to establish a close working relationship with our clients so that we can fully understand their requirements and work with them to produce the best possible solution for their building. We look forward to hearing from you if you are considering appointing an Architect for your project.

With many years experience of working remotely, business here mostly continues as usual. Most things can be done from home, and there are always alternatives or ways to accomodate site visits, surveys or face to face meetings. So do feel free to contact us as normal. Many people can draw up your plans, but do they take the time to really understand what you need? Based in the Cheltenham area for over 20 years, we are ideally placed to give your project the consideration it deserves. Whatever your building needs, we can help.
Peter Ireland, who set up VOID:Projects and leads its architectural work, has been a practising architect for over 30 years, so we have plenty of experience to call on. VOID is a small architectural practice based in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, with wide experience in solving problems, tailored to our clients individual needs. Equally at home with house extensions, alterations, or even whole houses, we are also happy to work with new or historic buildings, with industrial, commercial, or public building projects.
We can help advise you whether you are planning work near your boundary, or if you have received notice from your neighbours. We have a lot of experience carefully tailoring solutions for our clients, from the integrated fabric ceilings, heat and light shown at Lakeland, to solar shading, ventilation and daylighting systems. At Spirax, we specified the first installation of an innovative phase change cooling system. We can provide you with simple analysis of our proposals, sun and daylight studies, to give you an early idea of your carbon footprint and to help optimise our designs.
A '30's thatched cottage in a Cotswold village - the project was to extend the kitchen and bedroom, and rationalise the bathrooms. The final scheme combined a thatched extension with a monopitch green roof. Built in 1830, converted, repeatedly extended; Arts & Crafts meets Georgian & Gothick. The aim: to retain the character whilst bringing it up to date, using copper, cedar, polished plaster, slate, marble, pitch pine & bamboo. In the heart of the Cotswolds, with a spectacular view. An unremarkable 1960's bungalow, we obtained planning permission for a complete remodelling, extending the house substantially, adding another floor.
We have over 25 years experience in the commercial field. We've been fortunate to have many prestigious and high profile projects, as well as the more run of the mill, if no less important, ones. Our re-development of an old 1960s engineering works as the new Test Facility for Spirax Sarco, the world leader in steam valves and based in Cheltenham, was completed in 2011. With Hanson Walford Marston (Now Hanson Marston Mellor) in Kendal we have completed many projects for Lakeland, from their distribution centre in Kendal to the award winning headquarters in Windermere.
