Andrew Burridge Architecture relocated to Edinburgh in 1995 from London, where the practice has retained links and continued to carry out work. In 2002, with a growing workload and success working in challenging planning contexts, Andrew Burridge established Studio 33 - an umbrella organization for architects to work under and at times collaborate on projects.

Andrew has been delivering projects for over 30 years. With his own practice since 1995, he has specialised in residential buildings and commercial fit-out projects. Andrew has a special interest in sustainable design, particularly energy-efficient houses. He has won a number of awards for his designs and his Flower House was built as one of the exemplars sustainable at Scotland's Housing Expo in 2010. Alongside this is his interest in cross-laminated timber CLT construction, which combines the sustainability of timber with precise factory construction and rapid site erection.


Our experience spans across a wide range of building types and demonstrates our unique ability to analyse the architectural issues, understand the requirements, and develop designs to fulfill client aspirations. We provide a full range of architectural services for your building project from inception to completion on site. We carefully examine your existing buildings, their fabric, organisation and how they are used to reveal and explain the current context. We work with our clients to understand their needs and aspiration to develop a brief for their project.


SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS will check whether you need to Planning Permission or other Statutory Approvals. We will then prepare and submit the applications and guide them through the process. To apply for Planning Permission, SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS will develop a design from your brief, prepare all the drawings and submit your Planning Application for you. We have an excellent track record of achieving Planning Permissions and Listed Building Consents, even in very testing situations, and will be there, all the way, guiding you through the whole process.


Your building is Listed if it is of 'special' architectural or historical interest and as a consequence, receives protection under planning legislation. SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS can have a personal conversation with you and advise if your property is Listed and what this means. It's a criminal offense to demolish, alter materially, or extend a listed building without Listed Building Consent. However, you probably won't need Listed Building Consent if you're replacing old materials for new on a 'like-for-like' basis and the repair work doesn't affect the character of the building.

We bring a sound knowledge of both traditional and contemporary construction and valuable hands-on experience, ranging from upgrading Listed Buildings to carrying out planned maintenance works to modern buildings. Our work includes turning old houses into fresh contemporary homes as well as revitalising outdated education and commercial buildings, fit for use into the future.
