bere:architects was founded by Justin Bere in 1994. From the beginning, the practice has advocated the principles of sustainable development, and applies strict ecological, environmental and sociological criteria to the projects that we undertake. Our work encompasses the public and private sectors, including historic monuments, public amenities, transport buildings, private homes and larger social housing developments.

From Our Website
We combine our award-winning, design-led approach with trailblazing r+d work, constantly improving the performance of our buildings and setting the benchmark for sustainability in the built environment across the industry. What sets us apart is the total integration of research + development (r+d) in our project delivery work, and the care that we take in design, construction and post-occupancy analysis of completed projects. Applied research in project delivery work: Through a synergy of architectural design and r+d we deliver better buildings for our clients; more reliable, more comfortable, more easily maintained and safer buildings.
We deliver quality in the public realm that is carefully designed to stand the test of time and we choose materials that make people feel valued and respected, so reducing the risk of vandalism. We know how to compose designs that people respond to positively. We put positive energy into public spaces.
Over 20 years of award-winning work, encompassing pioneering plus-energy buildings; Passivhaus Plus, Passivhaus and Enerphit new-build and deep-retrofit buildings, across both public and private sectors. Through our unique methodology, bringing together award-winning design; comprehensive and meticulous construction documentation and quality assurance; and rigorous building science and research; we not only deliver world-class buildings for our clients, but also help to set the benchmarks for sustainable performance across the industry.
We have transformed numerous Listed Buildings, both Grade 1 and 2, and protected buildings in conservation areas. We use our knowledge, skill and love of traditional materials and techniques to transform the elevations of historic buildings, while enhancing their weather resistance. We insert the most modern interior facilities and services where appropriate, and insulation, drawing upon advanced techniques used in our new and retrofit buildings. Finally, we use the best combination of traditional and contemporary craftmanship to create interiors that reflect well on our private and commercial clients.
