Our affordable, pay as you go architects service has been designed specifically for home renovation and extension projects and with over 8000 happy customers we are the most popular and trusted way to engage an architect in the UK. We are excited to now offer our architects design visit as a virtual service, as well as a home visit and we are happy to confirm that we are operating so you can still access our unparalleled experience and expert knowledge to get your home renovation/extension project underway and submitted for planning permission now.
To kick start your Architect Your Home experience, we'll meet you for a design visit, either a four-hour or seven-hour, depending on the size of your project. One of our architects will visit you at your property and discuss your plans with you in depth; one-on-one. Creating initial design concepts and architectural sketches, your architect will guide you through the process, advising you on potential construction issues, planning policies, build-over agreements and party wall considerations. A four-hour design visit is the best option if you are planning to have work done to just one area or level of your home, such as a kitchen extension or loft conversion.
Following your initial design visit, you'll be making some additional decisions, as well as receiving supplementary drawings to clarify the vision for your project. Fully informed throughout the process, you retain control whilst still benefitting from the experience and expertise of an architect, ensuring both a stunning renovation and return on your investment. These drawings, along with the calculations from your structural engineer, contain the specific information required to obtain building regulations approval for your project.
Once a builder has been appointed, the price and contract period can be written into a binding agreement, overseen by your architect to ensure the work is completed according to the plans, the timescale and the costs stipulated. There are various options available to you at this stage, from the architect acting as a 'contract administrator', to being used on an 'ad-hoc' basis and attending periodic meetings to check on progress. We will help make sure all the final details are finished properly, and prepare a 'snagging' list of anything that is unsatisfactory for the builder to put right before he receives his final payment.
Architect Your Home's team of specialist architects offer you bucket-loads of inspiration as well as the highest quality home design. We are experienced in working across a wide variety of design styles and with all types of property, but what really sets us apart is that we actively encourage you to get involved with the design process, so that your ideas are at the centre of the project. Most building work, unless is it a minor refurbishment, requires some sort of permission to be granted before it can go ahead. Depending on the extent of the work you wish to carry out, the location and type of property, you may be required to apply for several permissions. Your architect will advise you on requirements, collating information and producing the necessary drawings before submitting the application on your behalf. Your works may affect a wall or structure of a neighbour's property.
By understanding building costs, you can get the most out of your budget. Your architect can produce a 'schedule of works'; a written summary of the main elements of the proposed works for the builder to price against, giving you a true like-for-like cost comparison between builders. Your architect can speak to builders on your behalf, managing the tender process until you've chosen your contractor.
